3 December 2004 We arrived in Singapore and our lift was waiting for us to take us to our hotel, the Orchard Parade Hotel. Singapore is such a contrast to Thailand. Everything is clean, organised, and very cosmopolitan. The one amazing thing that we noticed almost immediately is that Jade is not the big hit that she was in Thailand (the people don't seem to have the love for children, perhaps it is because we are in a big city). We checked into the hotel and then went for a walk down Orchard lane. There were amazing xmas decorations up in the street, and everywhere is playing xmas music. There are lots of shops around, especially electronic shops selling cameras, video machines, computers, etc. Dad says it is cheaper here but not as cheap as he expected, and the food is a lot more expensive, especially compared to Thailand. We found two restaurants right next to each other, there was only a few small potplants seperating the tables. The one served pizzas and vegetatarian food and the other served meat dishes. Anyway, Dad said lets sit at one table but order a meal from each of the restaurants. Anyway they said we couldn't do that so Dad tried to pull two tables together with him sitting on one side and me, Jade and Mom on the other. Again they said we couldn't do that, so Dad sat in the one restaurant and me, Mom and Jade sat in the other (but still right next to each other). Eventually the waiters realised that Dad was going to get his way so they let us sit at one table and order different dishes from each restaurant. We would never have had this in Thailand. 4 December 2004 We got up quite late and went off to look at the shops. The shops only open quite late (about 10h30) because they tend to stay open quite late. We looked at lots of shops, they have some really nice stuff here, some of which is cheaper than back home, but surprisingly some of it is not. Mom wanted a digital camera so Dad bought one for Mom. In the afternoon we went off to the Botanical Gardens, but unfortunately they were doing quite a lit of renovations so lots of the gardens were closed off. We had a MacDonalds for supper and then went off to bed. 5 December 2004 We went off on a tour of Sentosa Island. We went there by cable car, we even went over a cruise liner which was in the harbour below. We then went to a stunning butterfly park and saw all sorts of amazing butterflies, and other insects. The man there put a two hour old butterfly on Dad's cap and it stayed there for a while before flying off. The butterflies were all sorts of amazing colours. We then went on a monorail around the island before stopping at the Underwater World aquarium. They had lots of different types of fish, they even had some of the coloured fish that we saw in Thailand. They had an underwater tunnel which we went in, you had to look up to see all the fish. Some of the fish were really big. We then went on a boat cruise around the harbour, there were lots of huge ships in the harbour. We had a early dinner because tomorrow we fly off to Australia. |
